The Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD) is the Canadian regulating authority for Natural Health Products (NHPs) and non-prescription drugs to ensure that Canadians have ready access to a wide range of products for which safety, efficacy and quality standards. New product license applications (PLAs) are a required stage in authorization with the NNHPD.
Did you know that the NNHPD has just implemented New Performance Targets for PLAs?
Intended for products supported entirely by Individual NNHPD Monograph
Target date has been extended from 10 days to 60 days
Intended for products supported entirely by a combination of Individual NNHPD Monographs
Target date has been extended from 30 days to 90 days
Intended for products containing ANY ingredient that is not supported by an NNHPD Monograph
Target date remains at 210 days
Since you cannot sell NHPs before the Natural Product Number (NPN) is issued from a PLA, these extended target dates means new products or formulations will take longer to hit retail shelves. Please keep this in mind when planning future launches.
