June 21st is National Indigenous People’s Day in Canada
Every June, Canadians celebrate National Indigenous History Month, which is an opportunity to honour the heritage, contributions and cultures of First Nation, Inuit and Métis communities across Canada.
SNI is located on treaty 1 territory, and we recognize the resilience and contributions that Indigenous people have made not only in Canada, but the rest of the world as well.
For many generations, Indigenous groups and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on June 21, or around this time of year, because of the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.
We encourage you to participate in activities in your community to learn more about the richness and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultural expressions and stories.
