It was Abram L. Urban who said: “The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful.” Source is embracing change and growth and we’ve recently added two new team members to our Graphics team!
We wanted to take an opportunity to introduce them to you and showcase their unique skillsets. We are confident that these fresh minds and ideas will make us an even stronger team. Continuing with the Inside Source feature, meet the creative minds of Brian Reimer and Jada Zazulinski.
Brian Reimer
- Tell us a little bit about what got you here – your education and your passions that brought you to be part of our graphics team?
I went to school at Red River College taking the Graphic Design Program. I also have a diploma in Digital Multimedia Technologies at Red River as well as I received a Diploma in 3D Computer Graphics. My passion has always been creating art and this I think is what brought me to the Graphic Design field.
- What do you find to be the most inspiring or interesting part about designing packaging?
I think the most interesting part for me is how other designers make the packaging a certain way. I love how some are breaking out of the mold and using completely different formats of Packaging to sell there products. It also interesting to see how designers call out the product and claims on the packaging. I know..I’m a nerd.
- Quick, teach us one fun fact about food labelling regulations that readers may not know about.
One thing I have noticed over the years is Canadian labeling is much more stringent then it used to be. With the new regulations that have come out. I don’t know if that is a fun fact, but I do like it that the Canadian government is making sure products that come in don’t harm consumers.
- If you had to describe what sets Source apart as an employer, what would be the first thing that comes to mind?
I think what sets Source apart from other companies is the family atmosphere here at Source. I felt right at home here the first day I arrived. Feels good to be part of a team that has that feeling when you arrive at work.
- We know you love graphic design; what is something else you’re passionate about that you’d like to share with our readers?
I love to play music. I am in a band and enjoy sitting around recording new tunes. I have an album coming out soon which I am really excited to release. Stay tuned.
- Finally, if you had to describe yourself in just 3 words to someone, what words would you use?
Funny, Shy, Passionate
Jada Zazulinski
- Tell us a little bit about what got you here – your education and your passions that brought you to be part of our graphics team?
From the age of 14 I knew graphic design was the career path I wanted to pursue. When I turned 16, I decided to transfer to a different school where I’d be able to take a Visual Communications major that would prepare me for the next two years, where I attended River College for the Graphic Design program. After graduating college, I started looking for a graphic design job while keeping myself busy with freelance work. Patience and persistence payed off!
- What do you find to be the most interesting part about designing packaging?
I find the most interesting (and challenging) part about designing packaging is working with a three-dimensional surface. It requires a little bit more thinking to design packaging as you have to imagine it as a finished, three-dimensional product, rather than a flat document on a computer screen.
- Quick, teach us one fun fact about food labelling regulations that readers may not know about.
Fish products require the words “NET WEIGHT / POIDS NET” rather than “NET WT / POIDS NET”. Very fun.
- If you had to describe what sets Source apart as an employer, what would be the first thing that comes to mind?
Source seems to love opportunity and growth, not just for the business itself, but for the employees as individuals too. The work environment here is awesome and I’m grateful to be a part of the team.
- We know you love graphic design; what is something else you’re passionate about that you’d like to share with our readers?
The planet! There’s so many interesting places and species.
- Finally, if you had to describe yourself in just 3 words to someone, what words would you use?
Introspective, passionate, and goofy.
We already enjoy seeing both Brian and Jada’s smiling faces in the mornings and look forward to collaborating ideas and enhancing our already-tenacious team!
