Coming Soon: Safe Food for Canadians Import Requirements Change

The Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) licence program reached its second year in commission on January 15th, 2021. As the regulations are always progressing and changing, the next phase will be coming into effect as of March 15, 2021.

Food imported into Canada will automatically be rejected unless a valid SFC licence is entered into the Integrated Import Declaration (IID). If your products are rejected, the licence holder will experience delays due to their food shipment being held at the border until the error is addressed or the transaction is resubmitted.

Please ensure your valid SFC licence has:

  1. information declared correctly, without mistakes or typos
  2. selected specific activity of “importing food”
  3. listed the correct food commodity or commodities for import
