Stepping into the new year, we interviewed one of the freshest faces on our SNI Clinical Trials team: Meet Nidhi Thakkar, Junior Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs Specialist.
You’ve just joined team SNI as our new Junior Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs Specialist! What sparked your interest in this field?
My interest in clinical research and regulatory affairs comes from a genuine passion for improving patient care through safe and ethical research. I’m especially interested in how new treatments move from study phases to real-world impact, and I enjoy the balance between science, regulations, and attention to detail that this field requires. Joining SNI in Winnipeg is exciting because it allows me to contribute to high-quality clinical research while helping ensure studies are conducted responsibly and in full compliance with regulatory standards.
We know you just moved to Winnipeg for this role, what do you think of this city so far?
Since moving to Winnipeg, I’ve found the city to be very welcoming and comfortable to settle into. It has a friendly, community-oriented atmosphere that has made the transition smooth. I’m looking forward to continuing to get to know the city while growing both personally and professionally in this new chapter.
With your diverse expertise in areas like pharmaceuticals, but you also hold a Master in Regulatory Affairs.
Do you have a personal favorite product category or niche that you find most exciting to work with in Clinical Research?
While I’ve had exposure to several areas within pharmaceuticals and regulatory affairs, I’m particularly interested in innovative and patient-focused drug therapies. I find it exciting to work on clinical studies that have the potential to improve quality of life and address unmet medical needs.
Research in this area is especially meaningful to me because it combines scientific advancement with a direct impact on patient care, which is one of the main reasons I was drawn to this field.
We heard you enjoy reading books!
What book(s) to recommend to our readers for this year?
I enjoy reading books that offer fresh perspectives and encourage personal growth. This year, I’d recommend titles that focus on building positive habits, resilience, and mindful living.
I usually spend my early mornings and evenings in my garden with a cup of tea and a good book, surrounded by my plants. These books are not only inspiring but also practical, with lessons that can be applied in everyday life as well as in a professional setting.
When you think about the next few years of your career, what kind of work are you hoping to grow into, and what skills or experiences are you most excited to develop?
Over the next few years, I hope to grow within clinical research and regulatory affairs by taking on greater responsibilities in study coordination, regulatory submissions, and compliance processes. I’m excited to deepen my understanding of global regulatory requirements and gain hands-on experience supporting clinical trials from start to finish. I also look forward to developing strong project management and collaboration skills, so I can contribute effectively to my team while helping ensure research is conducted ethically, efficiently, and with a positive impact on patient care.
We hear you love cooking! What’s your go-to meal to make at home, and what do you enjoy most about being in the kitchen?
I enjoy cooking simple, comforting meals at home, especially recipes that bring fresh ingredients together. Being in the kitchen allows me to unwind, be creative, and make dishes that can be shared and enjoyed with family and friends.
Finally, If you could magically solve one of the biggest challenges facing the regulatory industry today, what would it be?
If I could magically solve one of the biggest challenges in the regulatory industry today, it would be having more consistent rules and requirements worldwide for managing specific diseases. Right now, differences between regions can cause delays and extra work, so aligning guidance would help regulatory teams work more efficiently and bring treatments to patients faster.
We are confident and eager to continue to work with Nidhi and know she is going to contribute significantly to our already remarkable and dynamic team!
