Source Nutraceutical, Inc. (SNI) helps food and beverage businesses determine whether a front-of-package (FOP) nutrition symbol is required, assess the applicable labelling specifications, and incorporate the correct symbol into final packaging.
Our FOP compliance services support manufacturers, importers, retailers, and brand owners preparing new products, adapting international labels, or updating existing packaging. Regulatory assessment and in-house Creative Services connect the technical requirements with the artwork your product needs for the Canadian market.
Canada’s FOP labelling compliance deadline was January 1, 2026. Under the Food and Drug Regulations, applicable prepackaged foods sold in Canada must display a nutrition symbol when saturated fat, sugars, or sodium meet or exceed prescribed thresholds.
The threshold is generally 15% of the applicable Daily Value (DV), with a lower threshold of 10% for foods with a reference amount (RA) of 30 g or 30 mL or less, and a higher threshold of 30% for qualifying prepackaged main dishes. Certain foods qualify for full or conditional exemptions.
Assessment generally uses the serving size or RA, whichever is greater, subject to product-specific provisions and policies. Where required, the symbol must appear on the principal display panel (PDP) and follow prescribed specifications for format, dimensions, language, placement, and surrounding clear space. Additional restrictions can apply to nutrient content claims and the prominence of health-related representations displayed alongside the symbol.
For more than 20 years, SNI has supported over 1,500 clients across regulated product sectors. Our food regulatory and creative teams bring technical assessment, bilingual packaging support, and artwork execution together within one organization.
For FOP projects, this connection helps carry the assessment through to the printed package. Whether you are updating one label or coordinating a private-label portfolio, SNI can align the review and design work with your production priorities.
Whether you are launching a new food product, adapting international packaging, or updating an existing label, SNI can assess your FOP requirements and coordinate the regulatory review and artwork changes needed for the Canadian market.
